The first time I ever heard The Heavy was on a Kia commercial and I fell in love. There were life sized sock puppets and robots, which in my book is really all you need to get my attention and maintain it for extended time frames. Somewhere beyond the flood of visual stimulation I found myself soaked with wonder about this song that seemed so familiar yet at the same time so different. At the time I had no idea who these guys were, but as I later discovered after putting two and two together on who this group of chaps were, I am enveloped by each one of their songs with a fantasy I had when I first sank my ears into the musical sound buffet as a young lad. My first thought was slightly punny when I thought to myself “How could such a raw and dirty sound come from a place called Bath”. These English natives are dealing out the same fate to musical stereotypes as was dealt to the Berlin Wall and the Roman Empire. Believe me when I say that you will be hearing more from these sound Spartans in the future and rest assured that I will be spinning these tracks with vigor in my current playlists and many more to come. I suggest that you follow my lead.
